It is fair time again. The Dakota County fair is a long time family tradition. About twenty years ago, Tim started showing cattle in the 4-H dairy show. The project in our family grew as each of the children became old enough to show. At one time we were bringing 14 dairy animals.
After countless blue ribbons, long show days and hot summer suns our family still brings cattle to the fair. Samantha is still in the 4-H program and will be showing five cows/heifers this year. We also lease cattle to 4-H friends who do not live on dairy farms, but still want to learn about the animals. In all we will have 10 cattle at the fair, Sunday August 9 through Wednesday, August 12. The 4-H show is on Tuesday morning. Come check it out.
Fairs are great ways for people to learn about agriculture. Showmen and women are usually excited to tell people about their animals and how they are raised. Some fairs even post agriculture facts around the barns. If you go to the MN State Fair, you are able to take a “Barn Tour” and learn about all the animals.
If you stop by our animals during the fair, make sure to say “hi”. We will tell you about our animals and how they did in the show.
See you at the fair!
