Planting has started on Zweber Farm

The planting season has started on Zweber Farm. Even though we don’t plant and harvest any cash crops, our farm still plants many crops each year. These crops (grasses, corn, small grains) are used to feed our cows.

The planting season started with a short picnic. During planting and harvest, we will often just eat lunch over at the farm so that Tim can maximize his time in the field. The boys were really excited to be in the tractor with Dad. Jonnie was so excited he did not eat anything. After lunch we all piled into the tractor so that I could take some pictures and video. After about one round both the boys were falling asleep. I am not sure if it is the constant rocking or the loud hum, but tractors have this automatic effect on children.

In the first video you hear Tim explaining what we are planting and how the grain drill works.

In the second video you hear Tim explain that we rent our no till drill from the Scott County Soil and Water Conservation district and why we no till drill our pastures.

The last video is of Tim driving down the field with the drill. You can hear Erik saying that he wants to be in the tractor 😦
