How do you plan a surprise birthday party for a dairy farmer?

Today is Jon’s 50th birthday!! To celebrate Steven made Goulash (his favorite), Lisa made rhubarb pie (another favorite) and we all sang while he blew out candles. Little does he know that the “real” party is tomorrow.

It is really difficult to plan a surprise birthday party for a man who rarely leaves the farm by himself. All week Lisa has been preparing the yard, flower gardens, cleaning the house and naturally feeling a little overwhelmed at times. Jon has been pouting slightly that we haven’t made a big deal about this milestone of a birthday. Lisa finally gave in and told him that just two of his sisters were coming tomorrow. At least that will get him in the house and showered before guests arrive.

So here is to hoping that Jon will not find “things to do” in the barn past 7:00 pm tomorrow. 🙂

Happy Birthday Jon!!
